Hurricane Chinooks - top quality Chinook dogs and Chinook puppies. The home grown native American sled dog.
Hurricane Chinooks'
"Top Dogs"

The following Chinooks are current and future parents. They are the cream of the crop at Hurricane Chinooks. Most of them are finished Grand Champions and have been health-tested, demonstrating excellent health, structure, movement and temperament; important attributes for show dogs, working dogs and family pets.

Hurricane Chinooks feels that structure is extrememly important to a dog's continued well being. It is not just for the show ring; it is for a lifetime of good health. It is not uncommon to see a Hurricane Chinook still showing competitavely at age 10 or 11. If they can be in the show ring at that age, they can still be going on walks and playing with the kids at that age.

GR CH INTL/NAT CH ARBA CH 'PR' Hurricane Chaser DNA-VIP TT NSW BIS

Chaser Chaser is out of U-CD GR CH 'PR' Romano's Tundra DNA-VIP OFA by GR CH Hurricane Mackenzie DNA-VIP OFA. She is a solid Chinook with endless energy and strength. Although quite a serious dog, she loves to run for hours in the field with the rest of the Chinooks. She is particularly strong, well-muscled and has a very well-balanced body. She is noted for her extremely smooth and efficient movement. Chaser weighs approximately 50 pounds and is a little over 21 inches at the shoulder.

Chaser made her mark in the Chinook world in 1998 as she became the first
#1 Top Ten Chinook in the UKC She ended up as the #2 1999 Top Ten Chinook right behind her Dad. In 2000, Chaser returned to the #1 Top Ten position. Also, in 1999, she completed her ARBA Championship. She was a multiple Best of Show winner and is the Year 2000 National Specialty Winner. She took a well-deserved break from the show ring, then returned in 2005, and at almost 9 years of age, walked away as the Grand Champion winner in the National Specialty. The judge cited her excellent movement, an important attribute at Hurricane Chinooks. She has passed this excellent structure and movement on to her offspring.

Chaser It's difficult to believe that as a puppy I considered her pet quality. How things changed when Debbie Premus, my puppy evaluator, and I stood in the middle of a rainstorm while she evaluated the litter. When Debbie determined Chaser was one of the top two puppies in my litter, I decided she was a "keeper." I was certainly wise to ask for expert advise. Chaser has been everything a Chinook owner could ask for. She acquired the best of both parents in health, temperament, intelligence, conformation and movement. From the very beginning she was a bright and trainable puppy. I assume she read the book on manners because I've really never had to train her--I believe she came from the factory house broken. Most importantly, she is a wonderful companion and she loves to snuggle up on the couch with me.

NBOB GR CH 'PR' Hurricane Janacek DNA-VIP TT

Hurricane Janacek

Janacek is out of GR CH 'PR' Hurricane Electra, making him a grandson of GR CH Hurricane Mackenzie, who was from the first litter I produced, and ultimately was a two-time National Specialty Winner; and great grandson of GR CH North Wind Kodiac, the first Chinook to attain his championship and grand championship in UKC. Janacek's sire is GR CH 'PR' Thunder Paws Taz Of Boreayl, in my estimation, is one of the best Chinooks I've ever seen.

Janacek is out of Hurricane Chinooks' tenth litter, since Hurricane Chinooks was established. He is very much like his great grandfather, Kodiac. He not only looks very much like him, but he also has Kodiac's laid back personality. He is really a joy to be around, and is one of my best buddies.

Janacek's hind quarters

Janacek stepped into the show ring for the first time during the last week of April, 2002, and by the second week of May, 2002, he finished his championship. He is a big boy that moves effortlessly around the ring. He has continued to do well in the show ring, and ended 2002 as the #1 Top Ten Chinook in UKC and the top pointed Chinook in ARBA. As a capstone to his year 2002 performances, Janacek took the 2002 Top Ten Best of Breed Competition during the 2003 Premier weekend.

Janacek went on to win Best of Breed Top Ten for 2003 during the 2004 Premier. In addition, he become the first Chinook awarded the title National Best of Breed (NBOB) when he won the 2004 National Specialty. His daughter, Mystic's Hurricane Sydney became the second NBOB title holder when she won the 2005 National Specialty. Janacek then returned to his winning style in the 2006 National Specialty, becoming only the second Chinook to win the National Specialty twice. Also, during the 2006 Premier weekend, Janacek won Best of Breed Top Ten for 2005 and went on to win a position as one of UKC's top 20 dogs for 2005. To cap things off, Janacek took the 2007 National Specialty, making him the only three-time National Specialty Winner.

Trivia -- Janacek was named after the famous Czeck composer Leos Janacek. Janacek is one of my favorite composers, with an excellent writing style for brass instruments.

Mystic's Hurricane Sydney standing on a rock.

Mystic's Hurricane Sydney in Canada in August 2006.

Sydney is a wonderful show dog, but she does keep me on my toes at other times. When it is time for her to go into her crate, she will actually assess if there are enough treats in the crate to make it worth her while to actually get in the crate. On the other hand, as a couch potato, she is a wonderful snuggler. Her showing career has been exemplary. In her first year of showing she already boasts a Best in Multi-Breed Show, and her biggest win was at the 2005 Chinook National Specialty, where she attained the title National Best of Breed (NBOB) when she won the 2005 National Specialty. She has excellent movement and demonstrates wonderful control over her body. She is better balanced than most of my Chinooks and almost always has a positive attitude in the ring. Of course, it is important to let her think it was her idea to show well!

Trivia -- Shortly after Katrina was born, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans with devastating results. That propted the thought of naming a Hurricane puppy Katrina. However, of equal importance was the fact that Dr. Katrina Becker, a person who has donated a tremendous amount of time and assitance to Hurricane Chinooks, was puppy sitting Chaser when Katrina, a singleton puppy, was born. In short, there were so many Katrinas involved with and around this puppy's birth that it just could not be ignored. Dr. Katrina (Tina) Becker has spent endless hours working with medical issues and helping raise puppies. Tina and her family have be involved in raising Janacek, Seneca, Keeper, Buck, Parker, Hatshepsut, Estanislao and Nittany, from Hurricane Chinooks.
