Hurricane Chinooks'
Top Ten Chinooks

Since 1998 the Chinook has been eligible to compete in the UKC's Top Ten competitions. This competition runs from January 1st of a year to December 31st. Points are only awarded for competition with dogs of the same breed. Chinooks get one (1) point for each Chinook they defeat in a show. At the end of the year all the points are added up and Chinooks are ordered by the number of points they have. Hurricane Chaser was honored to be the first Chinook to win the #1 Top Ten slot 1998.

1998 - First year Chinooks were eligible for Top Ten Competition

I'm very proud Hurricane Chaser had the opportunity to represent the Chinook as the very first #1 Top Ten Chinook. This is the ultimate honor for a Chinook and her owner/breeder. Chaser is a product of two wonderful Chinooks I own: U-CD GR CH 'PR' Romano's Tundra and GR CH Hurricane Mackenzie, who both made the 1998 Top Ten list with her. How wonderful it is to have Chaser accompanied by both her mother, Tundra, and father, Mackenzie, in the very first time that Chinooks were in the Top Ten ring.

Mackenzie led the pack when it came to the Top Ten standings for 1999. Last year he ended 1998 as the #7 Top Ten Chinook when his daughter, Chaser, captured the #1 slot. This year he has moved up the list and captured the top position. In addition, in June of 1999, he became the 1999 National Specialty winner at 11 1/2 years old, and became the #1 Top Ten Chinook in 1999 at 12 years of age.

With Hurricane Mackenzie retired, his daughter,Chaser, again took the lead in Top Ten. She had a strong year, winning the National Specialty, then going on to capture the #1 Top Ten Chinook slot in a very closely fought battle. At the end of the year she decided that she was ready for a break and she turned in her retirement papers. Three other Chinooks from Hurricane Chinooks joined her in the Top Ten rankings for 2000.

Hurricane Janacek ended 2002 as the #1 Top Ten UKC Chinook. In addition, he ended the year as the #1 Chinook in the American Rare Breed Association (ARBA). Although young, he has a wonderful mature temperament, and is really a joy to share my life with. He is approximately 65 pounds and has a smooth, flowing gate.
